As a law student, I hear many, many, many disturbing cases. However, this is one of the most disturbing stories I have heard in awhile. Apparently, a mother let a man molest her 7 year old son in exchange for money. People are fucking scum.
This gets me thinking about the death penalty. I may be a bleeding heart liberal when it comes to a lot of things, but punishing scum-bags is not one of them. My theory is that victimless crimes (drugs, theft, etc.) do not warrent outrageous sentences. Here, utilitarian principles of deterrence and societal benefit should drive punishmen. But when someone hurts another person, particularly a child, then all bets are off. Retributive, eye for an eye, the avenging arm of the law kind of reasoning kicks in. Someone rapes and kills a child? Fry that sorry ass son of a bitch up. In fact, as far as I am concerned, the death penalty is too humane for people like that. Too bad torture has been deemed unconstitutional becasue I think a person deserves to have whatever they perpetrated committed agasint them. Why should the guilty be afforded more rights and better treatment than their victims? Life is about conseqences. If you choose to hurt others, then you should deal with the consequences. And in my book, the consequences should be severe.
Oh, and my cure for the legal system when it comes to executing the innocent? Create a higher evidentiary standard for cases in which the prosecuter is seeking the death penalty.

Oh by the way, I talked to Dr. Yelton and when you become president he would like the power to take away anyone's driver's license. Thought I should pass that on to you, since I'm sure you have a list of the things that you have to do once you're president.
While I am absolutely against the death penalty nothing makes me feel more outraged and physically ill then someone sexually molesting a child. It happens a lot. These preditors are almost never reformed after punishment. Could we put them all on an island somewhere where they only have the basic tools needed to survive? Oh ya, they all would have to be made infertile so they couldn't reproduce.
so they can live free and unpunished on a desert island? Not good enough of a punishment for me... surely we can come up with something better....
castration!
here hear,
i think thats how you spell that. a defense attorney makes more money, but i think a prosecutor sleeps better at night. and a judge even better. i can relate its bad enough to read a case but when you have to investigate these maggots and look at them face to face and convice them to confess by being friendly with them, you want to go home and take 10 showers. miram i met a woman today that reminded me of you. today was my court date and there was a big dwi trial that was going to happen with alot of expert witnesses and several attorneys for a very rich and promenent man in cleveland county who had been arrested. needless to say all four of my dwi cases got continued as i am not a lawyer but only an officer. (by the way did i mention i was the first person to show up for court today. the lawyers came in about 2 hours latter. then again they do have the degree they put their time in then so they get it off now.) anyway the trial also apparrently called for a special judge so one was brought in. i had heard earlyer amidst the buzz in the courtroom that there would be a special judge. i have to be honest i expected a 70 year old gray haired man who sleepily walked to the bench and grunted and barked at the lawyers and officers. but instead in walks a beautiful, soft spoken, very southern, woman in her late twenties to early thirties, with a sweet smile on her face and a bubbely disposistion. she seemed more like she would be on a cooking show than in a court room, and she was incredible. she didnt take shit off of anyone, not the officers, not the da, not the defense attorneys, and certianly not the defendants. she had this way of saying the most condecending things in a sweet and gentle voice that made you unsure if you were being insulted or not, but you new you were being spoken too with authority. she was a judge out of buncombe county and she made me think of you. i think you would have loved her. she was extremly feminine yet held absoloute control over courtroom and was very knowledgeable about every case that was brought before her. it made me proud to see her run that three ring circus we call district court and to watch her run it well. it made me proud because i thought of my how my friend may oneday soon be doing the same thing. best of luck to you.
